# Anthropic’s filing lifts chips as Brent holds its war premium.

Causa, Edition 003. Monday 26 October 2026. Intraday, 14:30 New York.

Anthropic’s IPO filing quantified AI demand and lifted the Nasdaq about 1%. Brent fell on Saudi-led talks in Tehran, then recovered most of the loss. Spot gold is back above $4,000.

## Update, Tuesday 27 October 2026, after Monday’s close

December Brent settled at $115.81, down 91 cents or 0.8%, after trading as low as $114.00 in the morning, and US crude settled at $101.76, down 1.5%. Reuters tied the dip to the Tehran talks and said attacks on Saudi Arabia and on shipping limited the losses. The Nasdaq closed up 0.82% at 26,169.38, the S&P 500 up 0.70% at 7,676.77 and the Dow up 0.28% at 52,361.58. Semiconductors led, with the Philadelphia semiconductor index up 2.8%. Spot gold was at $4,020.60 in the afternoon, up 0.6%, and December gold futures settled 0.8% higher at $4,038.40. Bob Haberkorn of StoneX told Reuters that the pullback in oil was helping gold, along with bargain hunting after Friday’s low. The 10-year yield ended little changed just under 5%, and bitcoin slipped to about $79,800. No open call was decided at the close. F-010 is decided today: it fails if the Nasdaq closes below 25,955.34, about 0.8% under Monday’s finish. F-002 needs a Nasdaq close above 26,702.86 by Friday, about 2% away. ## What moved markets on Monday 26 October 2026, and why

Anthropic made its IPO filing public, disclosing $16.3 billion of first-half revenue and about $430 billion of committed spending with Broadcom, Google, Amazon and Microsoft. Chipmakers led, and the Nasdaq was up 1.0% at 14:30 New York after two losing weeks. December Brent fell as much as 2.3% in the morning as Saudi Arabia’s defence minister led a surprise delegation to Tehran, then recovered as no agreement emerged and was down 0.7% by early afternoon. Reports of a 6% fall compared two different contracts; the oil file sets out the difference. Three open calls moved. Gold’s recovery above $4,000 as equities stabilised is consistent with Friday’s forced selling file, F-007. Bitcoin’s flat session while oil fell weakens Thursday’s reading, F-003, that oil was holding it down. The Nasdaq rally has brought our Thursday AI call, F-002, within about 2% of its invalidation level. Outside our coverage, the largest move was in Brazil. After President Lula won re-election, Brazilian shares listed in New York fell sharply: the broker XP lost about half its value and Nu Holdings about a fifth. ## Cause Files

### [Brent recovers most of its Tehran talks dip as no deal emerges](https://causamarkets.com/cause/brent-recovers-tehran-talks-dip/)

Brent crude −0.66% to $115.95. Evidence grade B.

Brent fell as much as 2.3% as Saudi Arabia’s defence minister led talks in Tehran, then recovered most of the loss when no agreement emerged. Reports of a 6% fall compared two different contracts. The war premium remains in the price.

Wrong if: Our read is that the market heard the talks but does not yet believe them, so the war premium stays. If traders start pricing a settlement, the premium will drain. If US crude closes below $97, where it stood before last Wednesday’s strike near Shaybah, on any session by 3 November, election day, the market has begun to bet on a deal and this file misread it. We test on US crude because its front month does not change before the deadline. (F-009, deadline 3 November 2026)

### [Anthropic’s S-1 quantifies AI demand and lifts chipmakers](https://causamarkets.com/cause/anthropic-filing-lifts-chips/)

Nasdaq Composite +0.98% to 26,211. Evidence grade B.

Anthropic filed to list on Nasdaq, disclosing $16.3 billion of first-half revenue and about $430 billion of committed spending with Broadcom, Google, Amazon and Microsoft. After a week of doubt about the return on AI spending, investors bought the suppliers.

Wrong if: If the filing changed the story rather than one afternoon’s mood, the gain should survive the next session, before the Fed decides and before Microsoft and Alphabet report. If the Nasdaq closes below Friday’s 25,955.34 on Tuesday 27 October, the rally was positioning and this file gave the filing too much weight. (F-010, deadline 27 October 2026)

### [Gold climbs back over $4,000 as stocks calm](https://causamarkets.com/cause/gold-back-above-4000/)

Gold +0.59% to $4,018. Evidence grade C.

Gold recovered above $4,000 after Friday’s fall to a three-month low. Kitco tied the morning bounce to cheaper oil, but oil recovered most of its fall while gold held its gain. Calmer equity markets, and less selling to raise cash, fit the full session better.

Wrong if: If forced selling was the cause, gold should not make new lows while stocks hold up. If spot gold closes below Friday’s low of $3,975 on a day the S&P 500 closes above 7,600, by 6 November, the selling is not about the stock market and this file is wrong. (F-011, deadline 6 November 2026)

## What we are watching

- Wednesday 28 October, 14:00 New York, Federal Reserve decision: A hold is close to certain. Kevin Warsh’s press conference will show whether oil keeps a December hike alive.
- 28 and 29 October, Microsoft and Alphabet, then Amazon: Three of Anthropic’s four big suppliers report. Their own spending plans test Monday’s rally directly.
- Friday 30 October, December Brent expires: Most price services already show January, about $5 lower. We rule our Brent calls on December until it expires, then move each line by the gap between the two.
- Tuesday 3 November, US midterm elections: Trump has said he will not strike Iran before the vote, which gives the Tehran talks about a week.
