The exchange checklist
Six checks to run on any crypto exchange, including the ones we link to. None of this is a recommendation.
The six checks
Is it licensed where you live?
Check your own regulator, not the exchange website. Licensing differs by country and changes often.
Does it publish proof of reserves?
Look for regular, independently checked reports showing customer assets are held one to one, and read what they leave out.
Can you withdraw easily?
Test a small withdrawal before you deposit a large amount. Note the fees, limits and how long it takes.
What do trades really cost?
Compare maker and taker fees, spreads on the instant buy button, and conversion fees on your local currency.
How is your account protected?
Use an authenticator app or hardware key, withdrawal address allowlists and an anti-phishing code if offered.
What happens if it fails?
Read the terms on customer assets in insolvency. Keep only what you trade on any exchange, and hold the rest yourself if you know how.
Partner links
Causa may earn a commission if you open an account through a partner link. Partner links are always labelled. They never change what a Cause File says, and we cover partners with the same method as everyone else.
No partner links are active yet.
Crypto assets are volatile and can lose all of their value. Rules on crypto differ by country. Check what applies where you live.
