The short version
- You can read all of Causa without an account.
- We set no advertising or tracking cookies.
- If you subscribe to the Brief, we keep your email address only to send it.
- We never sell or rent personal data.
- You can leave with one click and ask us to delete what we hold at any time.
When you read the site
We do not set cookies. If you switch between light and dark, your browser remembers that choice on your own device, and it is never sent to us.
Our host, Cloudflare, handles basic technical data such as your IP address and browser type in order to deliver pages and protect the site from attacks. We do not use that data to build a profile of you.
Our typefaces are served from this site, not from a font service, so no third party learns that you visited. Live crypto prices are fetched by our own server, so the price provider never sees you either.
We do not run analytics today. If we add them, they will be cookie-free, count visits without identifying anyone, and be named on this page before they go live.
When you subscribe
We collect your email address and the page you signed up from. While the form is being submitted, your IP address is held in memory for about a minute to stop automated sign-up abuse, then it is discarded.
Your address is stored by Beehiiv, the service that sends the Brief. Like most newsletter services, Beehiiv can record whether an issue was opened or a link was clicked, which tells us whether the Brief is reaching people. You can block this by turning off images in your email app.
We keep your address until you unsubscribe. After that it leaves our mailing list, and Beehiiv keeps only a short record that you opted out, so you are never added again by mistake.
When you write to us
If you email the desk, we keep your message and address for as long as we need to reply, and longer only when the message leads to a public correction, so that the record stays complete.
Partner links
Some links to exchanges are labelled partner links. If you follow one, the exchange may know you came from Causa. What happens after that is covered by that exchange's own privacy policy, not this one.
Your choices
You can unsubscribe from the link at the foot of every issue. You can also ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by writing to [email protected]. We reply within 30 days. Laws such as the EU's GDPR and Kenya's Data Protection Act give many readers these rights; we offer them to everyone.
Children
Causa is written for adults and is not directed at anyone under 18. If you believe a child has subscribed, write to us and we will remove the address.
