ObservedBitcoin opened Thursday at $84,024, its highest level since 7 October, after a 2.5% rally on Wednesday that lifted the total crypto market back to $2.9 trillion. By mid-morning in New York it was near $81,600, down about 3.4% on the day. Ether fell about 3.6% to $2,403.1
ReportedYahoo Finance tied the drop to Brent holding above $111, which revived inflation concerns and reduced the appeal of risk assets. That is consistent with rate pricing. The Fed raised rates in September for the first time since 2023, most officials expect another increase this year, and markets price a December hike at about 80%.123
ObservedBitcoin also traded in step with tech, which had its own reasons to fall. Over a year it is down about 24%, from roughly $107,600 to below $82,000.45
There is no crypto-specific shock here. No exchange failure, no regulatory action and no large liquidation event were reported as the cause.
The chart
What would prove us wrong
If bitcoin closes above $84,000 by 29 October while Brent is still above $108, oil is not what is holding crypto down.
Bitcoin closes above $84,000, and on the same session Brent closes above $108.00
