ObservedThe Nasdaq Composite was up 0.98% at 26,210.69 at 14:30 New York, with the S&P 500 up 0.76% and the Dow up 0.30%. It is the index’s first strong session after two straight losing weeks.1
ReportedAnthropic made its IPO filing public on Monday. It plans to list on Nasdaq as ANT, and it reported revenue of $16.3 billion for the first half of 2026, against $4.6 billion for all of 2025. It also lost $80.7 billion in the half, mostly through accounting charges.123
ReportedChip stocks moved on the commitments. By Yahoo Finance’s count, the filing shows about $430 billion of commitments that cannot be cancelled across four deals: about $161 billion with Broadcom, $115 billion with Google, $110 billion with Amazon and $45 billion with Microsoft. Nvidia, Broadcom and Micron rose before the open, and all three were higher with Intel by midday.23
Our readThat addresses part of last week’s concern. Meta’s spending plans hit the Nasdaq on Thursday because investors doubted the return on the money; Monday’s filing showed one large buyer of computing with fast-rising revenue. Not every AI stock benefited: Meta fell after saying it would raise up to $95 billion for AI infrastructure, and the neocloud group, CoreWeave among them, slid after Elon Musk said many of them could fail.14
Desk noteThe rally counts against one of our open calls. F-002 said Thursday’s fall was a lasting verdict on AI spending, and it fails if the Nasdaq closes above 26,702.86 by 30 October while Brent stays above $108. The index is about 2% short of that line.1
This is not a verdict on what Anthropic is worth or a reason to buy chip stocks. The filing shows commitments, not profits, and Microsoft, Alphabet and Amazon test the spending case directly this week.
The chart
What would prove us wrong
If the filing changed the story rather than one afternoon’s mood, the gain should survive the next session, before the Fed decides and before Microsoft and Alphabet report. If the Nasdaq closes below Friday’s 25,955.34 on Tuesday 27 October, the rally was positioning and this file gave the filing too much weight.
Nasdaq closes below 25,955.34
